Philosophy ofTeaching

Fostering creative passion within our students affords educators the opportunity to inspire profound changes not only within our students but within our world. Our attitudes, outlooks and beliefs are more purposeful and meaningful when we are exposed to an education rich in the visual arts. Viewing art, studying art history and participating in the creative process alters the way in which we approach life.


Through art, we can see the past, present, and future of our society as well as the story of the individual artists who have helped to create this lasting visual legacy. Through art, people can express themselves to others in ways that transcend verbal comprehension and language barriers. Through art, we can gain an understanding of self and the world. Through art, we can develop problem solving skills to further our success in this complex world.


The art curriculum I have developed promotes global awareness and understanding of the importance of art with our students in ways that enhance learning, the creative process and innovative thinking skills which enrich student lives and the community around them.

My passion for culture, community and the creative process prove beneficial to the development of my students as well as campus community and culture. My methods encourage student exploration, innovation and risk taking as well as voice and choice through the development of differentiated creative processes. Over time, developing habits which support creative freedom fosters stealthy critical thinking thus allowing problem solving to develop more quickly and with less fear. In all walks of life, our world is counting on teachers to teach students to be fearless creative thinkers to help solve the complex problems of our future.


I believe that creative passion is communicable. It is able to be communicated with others. Beyond that it can be transmitted from one to another. Creative passion is catching! It is infectious, spreadable, transferrable, transmissible, transmittable … contagious! My focus, as an educator, is to inspire my students to strive for creative thought, only then will students be able to problem solve and construct meaningful, original works. A classroom which fosters creative passion provides a nurturing environment where students feel respected by their peers, a place they will feel uninhibited in their creative process, knowing that their ideas, thoughts and works will be respected. It is within this environment that students can gain confidence and realize their potential to lead our world.
